Racism? Bias? Stereotyping? [Dec. 28th, 2004|08:47 pm]

I remember walking into a store a while ago and there was something weird. I had always been able to go into stores before and not worry about this weird feeling but this time was different. I was being followed by one of the store keepers....me and my other two friends. My friends are a little on the goth side of the whole thing and we were out shopping for Christmas gifts. I mean we had beem out before but like I said before this time was different. Everywhere we turned there was this lady following us. It was like she had a homing device on us the whole time we were there. It wasn't until I came to the counter to pay for all of the items that I noticed what was going on. I watched her look me up and down before she scanned the items. I don't know whether she was looking at me because of my age and I had so much money but I couldn't stop thinking that the only thing she saw was my skin color and she stereotyped me. I don't know what was going through her mind but that feeling still lingered. There was this weird vibe when my friends paid for their items too. Whatever it was I was never going to go to that store again as I begin walking out of the door. She watched us as we left and she watched us as we turned the corner and walked away from the store. Was this racism? Was it being bias? Was it stereotyping? Because I really don't understand. I thought all of that was long gone but I saw that day that is still exists. How can people be so close-minded and hateful? I don't think I could ever be that way because I grew up with a great variety of people around me my whole life. People are people! We all have red blood and a heart and feeligns. But sometimes I think others are really cold hearted! But I don't hate them and I'm not even angry with them...JUST DISAPPOINTED! So how do you feel about this issue?

Blame yourself! [Dec. 25th, 2004|04:21 pm]

I was listening to Eminem today...that one song..."What I am" or whatever and I was listening to his lyrics. There was something in there about a kid blowing away all of those bullies in his school that were picking on him. The reason the whole thing was a big deal is because it happened in middle America. But if that same thing were to happen in one of those big city schools in like New York and LA...the whole thing wouldn't be that big of news. It's like they expect people in those areas to just take a gun and blow everyone's head off. People blame a child's choices on the music or the video games....that's a bunch of BULL!! "Where were the parents at?" The words of Eminem! So my question is this: Do you blame the music and games for the way our society is turning out right now? I highly don't think so...you can step out of your door promotes violence. The thoughts in our minds promote violence but how you deal with that is the person's decision. We make our own decisions...not music or movies or games!! Us!

Here's another issue!! What is your insight on UNIONS? For those of you who don't know who I am talking about...it is two people of the same sex getting together in almost a form of a marriage. I want to know how you feel about this issue!Personally, I believe that people should do what they want to. In the Constitution there is a phrase "Pursuit of Happiness" so why is that when people who are different for what they say "ordinary" their happiness doesn't matter. We go through life everyday, some people with their closed-minds. Then to back up their ignorance, people refer to the Bible and say that it is a sin. I don't see being gay as a sin...I mean come on YOU'RE NOT KILLING ANYWAY by wanting to be with someone. And no I am not gay but I highly believe that if everyone should have a pursuit of happiness in this nation...dammit let them. Or maybe you should change the wording "Everyone gets the pursuit of happiness EXCEPT gay people!" But then we would be at war with ourselves once again. This is my perspective...Now what do you think?

Yes, welcome to my new community. Every couple of days a world issue will be posted and here you can talk about the issue posted or put your own thoughts about other things here. Even if the government won’t let you say a lot of the things that you want to say…well here you can. Nothing will be held back from anyone. I believe in the full freedom of speech thing.

          So my first issue is:

If America says this is such a free country and everyone has their freedom to speak, why do they censor the songs we hear on the radio or the words that are there in our textbooks. Then there are people who yell at us saying “certain words” are not appropriate. Is there really a such thing as FREE SPEECH in the US of A? You tell me!
